Today it is all about health. Your Health!

Welcome, today I am going to show you a great way to stop smoking.

Why? Because I know you can. You have been willing to stop for ages now. Guess what, the time has arrived to do just that.

How? It couldn’t been easier. Davey Shafik told me about this great initiative from the state of Florida called Qwitter.

How does it work?
Qwitter is a social tool powered by Twitter to help you quit smoking. Qwitter does a few things to assist you in your effort to be smoke free!

Key features?
You can easily keep track of how many cigarettes you smoke each day.
You can keep a journal of your thoughts & feelings as you strive to smoke less.
You can view your progress over time.
You can share this information with others who can support you.

When and how?
Every time you feel the urge for a cigarette or has just lit one up.  As with all online applications you can use it from everywhere you are. You only need a computer or a cell phone.

When to start?
Immediately!  Imagine  how much money you’ll save. And No more anxiety attacks when you are out of cigarettes or at a place that is smoke free.

Take control of your life and do it with ease, do it with Qwitter!

ps. Can also be used for other addictions. Or even to create a success chart!

Meetups are great

Welcome dear reader to another blog entry by yours truly Nick Belhomme.

Internet made the world smaller and it keeps making it smaller.
Our ancestors needed to backpack when they wanted to visit the village 20 kilometers up the road. Then planes, trains and automobiles came making us much more mobile. But how fast we could travel the world, we could not easily connect with the same minded. Those spirits whom are driven by the same passion for programming.

I remember being a soul apart at school, because I spent all my time behind a computer. I never really found think-a-likes. Then Internet came into my life and with that… forums. Another breakthrough in human bonding…

With web 2.0 another path is explored: Meetups.

Services like Meetup provide you with a service not to only write and discuss things on the internet, but to actually meet face to face. As this thought may be frightening, I can guarantee you the atmosphere at such a meeting is great.

Let me tell you about the latest meetup I attented: the MySQL UserGroup meetup.
The professional presentation of MySQL by Geert JM Vanderkelen made the meetup worth while but it even became better. After the presentation people started to introduce themselves and everybody was discussing and joking over a drink. The result is 7 new contacts and maybe friends for life…

I hope I’ll see you at the next MySQL meetup. And if MySQL isn’t your thing start browsing Meetup and maybe you’ll find some other “meetup” of interest.

An Idea

An idea is a form of creativity. Maybe the most creative energy that exist.

The idea to start a personal website had riped and finally surfaced a month ago. I started working on the site. It was half completed when I got the book PHP Architect’s Guide to Programming with Zend Framework. I thought to myself, well Nick you are working on a new site, why not start building it with this framework?

So I started from scratch knowing it would postpone the publish date. In return on the other hand I would get first hand practice with this fabulous Framework.

I advice every PHP programmer to visit http://framework.zend.com and start getting into the code. It has an excellent community so starting shouldn’t be any problem.

Or you can do like me, if you have a couple of bucks to spend:

get yourself a copy of Cal Evans Book. I can recommend it from the heart.

The speed of development with ZF is fast paced, so my new site will be up and running by the beginning of next month. I’ll keep you informed on this blog.
